The National Mask Festival Tour Package allows our tourists to visit and experience other iconic attractions in East New Britain Province while visiting the National Mask Festival & Warwagira. The National Mask Festival and Warwagira is an annual event which features traditional mask dances from the East New Britain people. The festival begins with the arrival of Kinavai at dawn to the shores of Kokopo. Visitors will be treated with several extraordinary mask dances of which the Dukduk are of Imperative in their culture. Moreover, the Tolai people from the Baining will give you an experience of a lifetime with their amazing Fire Dance.Itinerary
Upon Arrival at Kokopo, meet our agent at your Hotel and can embark on a Journey to explore the Iconic attractions of East New Britain. The Tour starts at Kokopo War Museum (museum contains a large collection of WWII artefacts from the Rabaul related to the history of the area, including local art & culture, German colonial period, pre-war and WWII Japanese occupation).
Our tour continues to Bita Paka War Cemetry. The cemetery was established in 1945, which contains 1,120 Commonwealth burials of the Second World War, 500 of them unidentified. This cemetery also contains First World War graves brought in from Rabaul Cemetery in 1950 and from Kokopo Old German Cemetery in 1961.
Further Journey to Karavia to visit the Japanese WWII Hospital Tunnel and Chinese Memorial.
Take a Break for Lunch and Journey to the Rabaul Volcano Observatory, located above the main town at Mt North Daughter. Rabaul Volcano Observatory (RVO) was established in 1973 to monitor the 14 active and 23 dormant volcanoes within the regions of Papua New Guinea. At the RVO, offers wonderful views across the caldera bay.
Finally, we continue our journey to the Mount Tavurvur, one of the greatest thrills in life is to watch Mother Nature in her full force. Mt Tavurvur, an active volcano showing her presence with past catastrophic eruptions and regular throws of grey-black ash into the brilliant blue skies. Despite this, hundreds of people from all over the world come to witness the incredible scenery that Mt Tavurvur has to offer.
Day two begins with an early breakfast and be headed to National Mask Festival after a short brief with our guides/staffs. Day two gives you the opportunity to experiences the exciting mask culture of the East New Britain. Moreover, get the see the iconic Dukduk and Bianing people who are known for their fire dance. During the festival you will be treated with several mask dances, be sure to ask your guide for commentary.
After early morning breakfast meet with your guides and continue your journey to Mask Festival. Get to spent the early hours of the day at the Mask festal and continue on Agricultural Tour in the East New Britain Province.
Get to discover East New Britain’s agritourism attractions with a guided tour of a copra and cocoa plantation located in Warangoi - the eastern part of the Gazelle Peninsula. On this tour, you will engage with local subsistence farmers and see how agriculture products are grown using mostly traditional methods. You will also discover locally made products from the plantations’ produce and experience local food preparation.
Headed out with our guides after breakfast to the Mask Festival and spent half of the day and continue your journey for a Harbor/Snorkel Cruise with the Rabaul Kokopo Dive. A relaxing and cooling off tour to visit the famous Rabaul Harbor and view the volcano from the waters.
After an early breakfast with a short brief with our staffs continue your journey with us to the Mask Festival for the last time to spent half a day and embark on fun fishing tour with Rabaul Kokopo Dive. Fishing gear and assistant will be provided, get to enjoy the heat of the sun while fishing.
After early breakfast, head out with our guide to refresh your mind and enjoy the Islands scenery. Located in the St George’s Channel between East New Britain and New Ireland Provinces, the Duke of York Islands comprise of thirteen coral islands – the largest islands being Duke of York, Mioko, Makada, Karavar, Utuwan and Kabakon. Though they are tiny in size, their exuberance, immaculate beauty and hospitality is unmatched. Travel time from Rapopo Plantation Resort is about 45 minutes on a banana boat with pods of playful dolphins and schools of flying fish accompanying boats along the way. The islands are the “perfect island getaway” with their trademark of flawless white sandy beaches and turquoise-blue waters. Whether it is snorkeling or a good day out at the beach, these atolls have an abundance of surf, sun and sand.
